2 Stroke cylinder cover

Cylinder covers on two-stroke engines operate under high pressure and heat loads.

Typical issues cylinder covers encounter:

  • Corroded o-ring grooves and seat housing surfaces due to cooling water.
  • Thermal cracking on the combustion area and the cooling bores.
  • Wear and surface cracks near the injector holes due to fuel spray.

Inspection:

After chemical cleaning and shot blasting, covers received in our workshop undergo a thorough inspection, including detailed measurements and visual checks, checking of bores by the endoscopic camera, and dye check to detect cracks. We prepare a detailed report including the proposed recondition process.

Based on the findings, we perform the following cylinder covers reconditioning processes:

  • CNC machining, rebuilding by submerged arc welding and machining to standard dimensions of cylinder cover o-ring grooves and seat housing surfaces.
  • Full recondition of combustion surface to remove all cracks by completely removing the combusted material, rebuilding by submerged arc welding and CNC machining including boring of cooling and injector holes.
  • Local repair of minor cracks on combustion surface and cooling holes.
  • Build up of wear and cladding with Inconel material of combustion surface around injector holes for protection of fuel spray.

All our recondition procedures include automated welding, preheating, and heat treatment in annealing furnaces as necessary to produce a perfect result.
