Fuel Pump Plunger & Barrel
The good condition of the fuel injection system in general and the fuel pumps, in particular, is of very high importance for the efficient operation of an engine. The poor condition of the pump’s plunger and barrels may cause starting problems, misfiring, instability, and increased specific fuel oil consumption.
The plunger and barrel suffer from poor fuel quality and fuels with very low lubricity substances. This leads to wear on the helix area of the plunger and clearance between the plunger and barrel beyond the good working limits as set by the engine manufacturer. The good news is that a new plunger and barrel is not required!
With our in-house capabilities, we can remanufacture and recondition this high-cost component at a fraction of the cost.
Fuel Pump Plunger & Barrel reconditioning steps:
- The plunger and barrel is cleaned in a chemical bath and ultrasonic cleaner
- In case of excessive clearance or wear on the plunger, the plunger is scrapped
- Barel bore is honed in order to establish a good running surface
- The new plunger is manufactured in our CNC machines
- Final clearance between new plunger and barrel is adjusted as per maker’s recommendations, and assembly is pressure tested
The above service is available for all 2 and 4 stroke engines with a cylinder bore of 160mm or more. A large stock of spare oversize plungers is kept in our warehouse, ensuring a turnaround time of a few days only.
