At our mechanical workshop in Tuzla, Turkey, INJEGOV successfully completed the full reconditioning of a four-stroke diesel generator crankshaft, restoring all crankpin and main journals to OEM specifications using advanced laser cladding technology.
Project Summary
During the initial inspection, several crankpin and main journals displayed wear, ovality deviations, and signs of corrosion. Two crankpins (No. 3 and No. 5) required dimensional restoration, while all seven main journals also required corrective work. Run-out values reached up to 0.12 mm before repair.
Work Performed
-
Grinding and laser cladding of worn crankpin journals
-
Laser cladding of all main bearing journals after pre-grinding
-
Precision grinding and polishing to restore nominal diameters (190.00 mm / 220.00 mm)
-
Run-out correction, achieving 0.00 mm across all main journals
-
Laser cleaning to remove corrosion
-
Removal of 4 broken studs and machining of 2 damaged centric holes with shrink-fit bush installation
Hardness tests after cladding showed values between 190HB and 230HB, and no cracks were detected during final inspection.
Results
After reconditioning, all crankpin and main journals achieved 0.00 mm ovality, and the crankshaft passed final calibration with zero run-out, ensuring optimal alignment and long-term reliability. The shaft was preserved with protective wax and safely packed for shipment.
This four stroke diesel generator crankshaft reconditioning project demonstrates INJEGOV’s capability to carry out complete mechanical restoration, including journal repair, laser cladding, machining, and final calibration under strict tolerances. The resulting measurements—zero ovality, zero run-out, and verified hardness levels—ensure reliable engine performance and extended crankshaft lifetime.
Conducted entirely in our mechanical workshop in Tuzla, Turkey, the repair followed INJEGOV’s high standards of marine engineering excellence and precision
Why Laser Cladding
Laser cladding provides a high-strength metallurgical bond with minimal heat distortion, allowing journals to be restored to OEM dimensions with superior precision and extended service life. It is one of the most reliable and cost-effective solutions for crankshaft recovery in marine applications.
