Powerplant maintenance
Greece’s most prominent private independent electricity producer approached us in early 2020, a couple of months ahead of their major shutdown. Their request was to support them with the maintenance of steam valves and the balance of plant equipment such as pumps and heat exchangers.
The facility concerned a CCGT (Combined Cycle Gas Turbine) plant with 600MW output and is one of the most modern and efficient natural gas-fired power plants in the Balkans. After a few site visits and an extensive tendering procedure, the plant managers awarded us the contract. For about five months, we supported our partner daily on-site and in our workshop.
Scope of work
Scope of work involved the overhaul along with reconditioning and testing of:
- Plate Heat Exchangers
- Gearboxes
- Pumps
- Pneumatic actuators
- Gate valves
- Globe valves
- Control valves
- Ball valves
- Safety valves
- Butterfly valves
Note that we reconditioned valves of sizes of 0,5 up to 20 inches and working pressures of up to 180 bar. Except for the reconditioning of bolt bonnet valves, we repaired pressure seal bonnet valves online with 100% success avoiding the costly and time-consuming removal and welding procedures.
Project in numbers
To sum up, we provided a-z support to our customers from the project’s kick-off until the final day of recommissioning of the power plant, even providing support to the gas turbine makers’ on-site staff.
The feedback received from the customer’s technical staff and top management was excellent, and we were immediately awarded additional contracts for future works in the power plant.
